first book of 2008: lara durback
Lara Durback loves Oakland, Philly, and San Francisco so much. She: an artist/poet working with text, letterpress printing, sound (analog synthesizers and field recording), as well as the book form, and any other medium that can be combined and smashed together. Currently contemplating humans awash in electromagnetic fields: both those from the earth and those emitted by powerlines and electronic devices, and how difficult it is to match a field to a source.
the press gang is a small press based out of tuscaloosa (al) and brooklyn (ny) by and publishing younger avant writers.

karen volkman's books of poetry are _crash's law_ (norton, 1996) and _spar_ (univ of iowa press, 2002), which received the iowa poetry prize and the james laughlin award from the academy of american poets. her book of sonnets, _nomina_, is forthcoming from boa editions in spring 2008. her poems have appeared in numerous anthologies, including the best american poetry, the pushcart prize anthology, american poets in the 21st century: the new poetics, and the gertrude stein awards in innovative poetry. she teaches in the mfa program at the university of montana in missoula.
